FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J., Sept. 1, 2005 -- Medco Health Solutions, Inc., (NYSE: MHS) today announced it earned the No. 1 rating as the nation's top pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) in overall customer satisfaction for the fifth straight year - an unmatched accomplishment in pharmacy benefits - according to the 2005 WilsonRx™ Pharmacy Benefit Satisfaction Report released by Wilson Health Information, an independent healthcare consumer research firm.

The fifth annual WilsonRx™ report results were derived from a written questionnaire mailed to approximately 44,000 households throughout the United States. Based on the 20,000 responses, Medco was rated:

"Medco's strategy is based on delivering innovative approaches to pharmacy care that place our clients and membership first - providing higher levels of satisfaction and greater savings," said David B. Snow Jr., chairman, president and CEO, Medco. "This sweep across multiple channels - from mail-order pharmacy to Internet pharmacy to Medicare discount cards - recognizes our commitment to customer choice and service excellence."

More than 3.5 million consumers nationwide currently benefit from a Medco-administered discount card, which includes over 1.1 million consumers carrying a Medco-administered Medicare prescription discount card. According to WilsonRx™, Medco achieved the top overall ranking among seven different national discount card programs in the survey, delivering the highest overall customer satisfaction in cost savings.

"When we launched our Medicare discount card program, we were intent on providing a valuable cost-savings tool for seniors struggling to pay for their prescription drugs; this survey validates our efforts through the opinions of those who matter most - people who are among the most careful consumers in America," said Snow. "Heading into 2006, with the implementation of Medicare Part D, we will employ that same philosophy - offering a variety of valuable prescription drug benefit options that can help seniors obtain the care they need at a price their health plan, employer or they themselves can afford."

In addition to its industry-leading discount card recognition, Medco also received top honors in customer satisfaction in overall mail-order and online pharmacy services, besting 22 other providers evaluated in the survey. In 2004, the company dispensed nearly 88 million mail-order prescriptions, up from 78 million in 2003; of those prescriptions nearly 17 million prescriptions were processed through Specific attributes about Medco's Web site that ranked No. 1 included:

"Mail-service pharmacies are being used by about a third of consumers to fill prescriptions, second only to chain pharmacies," said Jim Wilson, president of Wilson Health Information. "Mail-service pharmacy use has tripled in the past four years, primarily due to growing customer acceptance of the cost savings, safety and convenience of mail. To maintain this upward trend, it will be important for PBMs going forward to coordinate prescriptions between mail, retail and other settings in order to continue satisfying members and maintaining medication safety across all distribution channels. Medco's members have rated them No. 1 across the board."
